He was the ultimate “outsider”, a non-politician with no experience in public service. Hence he could get away with things that would sink the campaign or career of a professional politician, and he could get up and say anything he wanted to on any topic as he had to policy-making, legislative or voting record to refer to.

Perot was just an as big as an outsider to politics. I don’t think that’s quite what it was. I think he said a lot of things that our white majority population wanted to hear and the equally white majority in the media especially ownership didn’t call it out for what it was lest they fear “offending” “middle America.”
