Perhaps, I had heard of a change in software that would permit it to be used against small vessals as well (prevent USS Cole style attacks) supplementing any small arms weaponry. The intent would be to not sink but deter. That said, the better idea would be to provide a combatant vessal as close escort.

For this ship, who’s task is monitoring underwater acoustics (mainly submarine tracking and inteligence gathering, I guess), having a close escort would be detrimental to the mission since it would be emitting noise.
