Who said you need to get tens of thousands of people off the planet any time soon? That would be absurd. We need to develop the tech to trivialize getting there first. We need A.I., materials tech, energy generation tech, etc, etc.

We are going to end up in space if we don’t kill ourselves as a species, eventually. Not all of us, of course, but people breed quite rapidly.

People are already working on everything you mention, but if the 150 year extinction figure was actually meaningful, the complete crash would have to happen VERY soon to start the die off. We’d be far too late to develop those technologies.

Once we develop AI, assuming it’s possible (I think so), there’s no reason for us to go off-world. The machines can do it, and create biological life-forms adapted to the worlds they find. Once we develop AI that can improve on itself, we’re largely irrelevant.
