Dodd blames this growth “away from urban areas and rural town centers” on “poorly coordinated transportation, community development and housing policies.” What he means is that governments have failed to compel people to live in a way he approves of.
Dodd isn’t alone in thinking his ideas are so important that he’s willing to use the force of government to implement them. Though he’ll be gone at the end of this term, the Beltway will still be lousy with this arrogance and its destructive influence. As we’ve said before, we need a new class of lawmaker in Washington.
