yeah

My goal this summer was to not have to do all the mowing and weed spraying ,, BUT, ,, my son just told me he’s spending the summer at a friends apartment up near school where he just got a job offer. He’ll come home “some weekends” to help me out (says he) but I’m sure they’ll mostly be spent going to see old friends at night and sleeping all day!!

I give you credit for remembering how things were when you were younger. I’m not a parent, but it does seems sometimes some parents forget they were kids and how they thought then. You have the real view.

And now…off to stripping a bunch of old white oak woodwork pulled from my hallway. Got a lot to strip and it is beautiful, but has been through the inner city slum-landlord years. It’s too bad too, since it is all quarter-sawn and has the most interesting striping running through it. I figure, even if it has it’s gouges and scrapes and holes, all cleaned up, sanded and stained with a nice clear gloss varnish it is still going to look great.

When I get it done. This part is so, well…gooey, smelly and just sucks. Yuck. Luckily it is only a combination of what appears to be shellac with a coat or two of varnish on top of that.

I still wonder what the hall and staircase must have been like when new. I had a guy that made me some new replacement pocket doors tell me, my front entrance and staircase would fetch some major money if taken out and sold in a place like San Francisco.
