Indeed- it’s a perfect opportunity to point out the very mechanism that allows for this sort of wanton spending. First, there is no fiscal accountability, and second, the tools such as baseline budgeting and forced spending cost us all money needlessly. Money that should either stay in our pocketbooks, or be spent on other items that need funding like perhaps an unexpected natural disaster or the like. If people understood how Washington spends, they might want to change it.

The problem is trying to get the message out to people (present company excluded) who have the attention span of a gnat on crack. We need Schoolhouse Rock does Washington.
