There is a story—could be apocryphal—about an old Polish woman who saved (looted) a Torah scroll, kept it hidden during the war, and then wanted to charge money to tourists to view it. When the Jewish community insisted that it should be returned she cried Teh Juice were trying to take away her only means of livelihood!

I’ve heard that story as well, with an elderly Polish lady being the central character. It could be more than just an apocryphal tale. I first heard that tale here, from my ex-wife. In her version of the story, it happened in 1946.
