The analogy that comes to mind is the bear versus that Timothy Treadwell dude, the one who thought they would do him no harm, until they savaged and ate him.

exactly, timothy was such a strange guy. he so needed to be liked by those bears.
he projected on them just what he wanted and needed.
it was all abt. him. he was a narcissist.
the bears had no special relationship w/ him. they tolerated him until,
it became intolerable for one of them.
and timothy became part of the bear’s basic food groups.
that is all he ever was to them.
it’s a similar mind set to o, needing to be important.
to the enemy.
