Slavery and not confronting its immediate legacy. Making Lee and those guys into romantic heroes fighting for a lost cause rather than slavery’s preservation.

The idea that not killing all the coconspirators that rebelled against the US was a very bad idea. They should have all been summarily executed; either hanging or shooting would have sufficed.
