Well, Iran would have loved to invade Iraq, depose Saddam and install a puppet government with loyalty to Iran but they lacked they military might to accomplish that. We did it for them.

And what would intervening militarily now do but keep that puppet in power? Think of it like a market correction: We seriously unbalanced the powers in the region and now they’re righting themselves in our absence. In some parts of the world, that usually takes the form of friendly governments being removed in bloodless coups or simply voted out in the next major election. In this case, it’s a civil war.
