The right which always screams for small government wants to put an amendment out that will prohibit homosexual rights and abortions. THAT is hypocritical of them. The left, who is for expanding the role of government screams when the right intrudes into our bedrooms etc. That too is hypocritical. Both should serve to warn us about the potential pitfalls of big government.

It’s not hypocritical, it’s simply proves that arguments about the size of government are a meaningless waste of time. The bottom line is that the government should be efficient. Saying you want the government “smaller” doesn’t help - you have to be specific. People who run on a platform of smaller government always end up doing things like cutting funding for hospitals and public schools, while simultaneously cutting back oversight on the private sector (and pocketing big bucks from lobbyists), resulting in things like the housing crisis - Michelle Bachmann is a big “small government” supporter, and her MN district has the highest rate of the foreclosures in the state.
