“If you burn the fuel”? There is no question but that we are going to burn the fuel. The only way we will stop burning petroleum is when we actually run out of it.

The idea that we will stop using it out of altruism and concern for the future is a fantasy.

The latter is true.
The former is false. We will stop burning petroleum as soon as it is cheaper and easier to get all our energy from other sources.
