My understanding, to greatly simply it, is that they want the U.S. out of Muslim lands. The fact that in some cases it was Muslim rulers who invited the U.S. in for protection is apparently irrelevant.

Appearantly they are still a bit touchy about that stuff with the Christians that went down around 1096.
