I was watching live MSNBC, I think it was, one of their field reporters said he was suspected of having connections to “Islami—uh, uh—extremist organizations”.

These guys who try to blow up planes are about as muslim as Timothy McVeigh was a Christian. Extremist organizations would be the most accurate way of identifying them. Religion is used as a tool to manipulate people into group-think. People who shoot doctors who perform abortions are no different.
