Mitt Romney’s “47%” remarks were indefensible. I said so at the time, and I maintain that position. This line is being added to #37 for clarity.

He either knew that they might get out, which makes it self-sabotage, or he didn’t, which makes it stupidity.

Furthermore, it was an entirely unforced error. He didn’t need to make such a statement (particularly the part about “never getting them to take responsibility for their lives”), even to that audience.
