re: #420 spidly

I dunno. I do want the people who want reform to get what they want even though I don’t think there’s a hell of a lot of difference between the candidates. But then I worry that Mousavi being elected will falsely placate those Iranian who want real reform, and give addition license to Western leaders believing themselves to be the Messiah to put even more pressure on Israel to pursue pointless diplomatic means of stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and delaying the needed bombing of the centrifuges beyond the point of no return.

My friend if you believe that real reform will occur in Iran without the clerics approving of the changes I would like to hear your reasoning. Iran is a theocracy, and the real power behind the Islamic Republic’s fist rest with the conservative Ayatollah’s and the structure they oversee.
Reformist politicians in Iran have about as much influence on Iran’s behavior as the election of a small town mayor does on US foreign policy.
Nothing will change until the Ayatollahs lose their strangle hold on power.
