I put all my overclocks through the wringer. There is lots of software designed specifically to test the stability of an overclock. If they reveal problems, or general stability is bad, I lower my overclock - or rather I incrementally move up to that point and back off.
I regularly get decent overclocks that are rock stable. Processors get binned into clock groups partly by their capabilities, and partly due to market considerations.
I have an AMD Phenom X4 that I’ve been thinking about OCing. Should I get water cooling first? Which software should I use to test it?
