Oh, I agree - I see no difference between genetic manipulation and plain old breeding, which is…genetic manipulation. But GM does broaden the range of what can be manipulated, such as pesticide resistance, and that comes with some additional risks and problems.

There are other avenues where genetics may play a better role.
