I think Steve points to Afghanistan as a special case. A death trap, a no win boondoggle. In that he may have a point. Iraq was worse, Vietnam was worse, but I cant argue that he is not right about Afghanistan.

Still doesn’t make much sense in the context of Rick Perry and the death penalty.

The thing is that Iraq may well be a victory after all. We have to see how things go in the next few years, but if it stays at least mostly democratic we will be able to claim a substantial, though not decisive, victory.
