A lot of people have said that Silver has “sold out” and gone for the clickbait, because ESPN. I think his punditry (articles he posts, headlines, Twitter) has gone that way, but I think the reactivity and volatility of the model has more to do with his fear of being wrong. He got spooked by missing Trump’s rise and is hedging his bets, either intentionally or unintentionally, by tweaking either the input polls or the model itself.

I think it’s that too. He got a lot of publicity last election and praise. As I said, I still appreciate his analysis but there’s just something I think he’s missing here with his analysis. I personally don’t think you change states that dramatically especially with early voting at a historical high this election.
