re: #363 doppelganglander

A thousand updings. Yep. It is important to know that everything presented to us in the popular culture presents, and even pushes, a particular philosophy. You hit the nail on the head.

I was referring to those who do not know this, the other 90 or so percent of Americans, who think that it’s all “just entertainment”, who put TVs in their kids’ rooms at age 4, who don’t monitor, let alone discuss, anything about what they’re being fed.

My 3 generations remark still stands, though. From “Father Knows Best” on, from the Hollywood-pimping incestuous forebears of our Tonight Shows and Late Night with Assclowns, the pop machine has been allowed by America, conservative and liberal alike, to mold the minds of generations, and to push “envelopes” and to, with that most insidious device of all, the laugh-track, tell us what’s funny, what’s not, what’s acceptable, what’s not.

I view pop-culture consumption, especially consumption of TV, the way I view crack-smoking, paint-huffing, and sterno-drinking. If I know someone who does any of these things regularly, their judgement is suspect, in my mind. They, for the most part, are willingly killing their mind.
