I just want to cry. For weeks I begged people to get involved locally with the party because it’s starts at the lowest levels of the base, but I have to say- I don’t think many on the right want to take the time to do the hard work that’s needed to correct this ship. And that’s why I’ve been depressed about this lately. I don’t know if it’s because the right leans more towards individualism that it’s hard to organize such people, or what. But until rational people jump into the trenches, we’re going to continue to have these problems.

I agree, but I think it’s beyond help right now. I think Charles is right when he said above that the Conservative movement is in full meltdown mode. I believe, at this point, that the hardcore Conservatives will chase everyone out of the party or alienate them into silence, and they will have that new hardcore Conservative movement running the party. It will take a while to erode that, or the movement will simply fail and die a very nasty death during the next election.

Meanwhile, I don’t know where moderates like ourselves, 9/11 liberals some of us, will go to express our political will. I can’t think of any alternatives right now. I’m certainly not going to join up the Kossaks of the Democratic party, so I guess I’m stuck just feeling depressed for a while.

An economic depression and a political one to boot…is there anything more coming my way?

Oh yes, I forgot: Iran. Well, maybe it’s time to start enjoying wine a little more than usual or something.
