My sister just told me about a friend who got a fine for flicking his cigarette ashes outside of his car window. On US 101 by the CA Hwy. Patrol. $500 fine! Yeah, I know a lot of people will say good. I think that fine is much too high and it can destroy a person’s life rather easily given that most people live paycheck to paycheck. They’re nuts.

Yes and no. I think that the act of flicking ash, on a standalone basis, is hardly worhty of a hefty fine. But in a state with a severe brush- and wildfire problem, ashes followed by butts can be a serious public safety threat.
