I understand what you’re saying, I just don’t agree with it.

Then again, I’m a strange person. I don’t think that having a person say something they obviously don’t believe changes anything. Hearing words does nothing for me when I know, for a fact, that they are meaningless. Empty platitudes do not ‘make things right’ as far as I’m concerned.

But it does change things. If bigots don’t openly express their bigotry, fewer people are influenced by that bigotry, and bigotry recedes.

You have no way of knowing if the majority of things you’ve heard in your life, from anyone other than close friends, are things they sincerely believe. The words themselves are important.
