I literally dug the pond by myself. 30,000 gallons and I put a butt ton of money into plants and fish and decorations. It looked gorgeous. I was not pleased when the Koi started disappearing. I caught my neighbors cat “fishing” one night. I asked him to keep his cat in his own yard. He came back and asked me what I expected a cat to do and inquired if building a mouse farm was next on my list.
We had a simular experience, except it wasn’t cats, it was herons, ‘coons, and one tiny grey fox.
Fished ‘em out quick-like.
So, I took my cheap-skate behind to the baitshop and bought three dozen goldfish (sold as bait). I’ll be darned, there were 5 black goldfish in there and 3 multicolored goldfish that the untrained eye can’t tell from koi. Feed ‘em twice a day and within 6 weeks you have palm-sized koi.
But they have no pedigree. So I can’t brag about how expensive they were.
Look nice swimming around, though. And since they’re throwaway cheap, no worries.
