Yeah, in addition to travelers/visitors there were also Muslims among the slaves. That had to seriously suck in the South when Ramadan fell in the summertime (though I imagine after a generation or two most Islamic practices would have largely been forgotten and/or abandoned).

Yeah definitely. Something I thought about last night though. I think many people in this country have ancestors that were Christian, Jewish, and Muslim at one point. I recall reading that some of the earliest Muslim converts were Christians and Jews which obviously makes sense considering geography.
