So let me get this straight - if a year’s worth of preparation and giving away converter boxes didn’t work, what will? And if their TV’s go out, they can always stimulate the economy by buying a new one.

If the TV industry were US-based, we’d hear calls for a bailout by subsidizing new TVs. But they’re made elsewhere.
(Strange - just got a Samsung, made in Mexico. It replaced a Zenith, also made in Mexico, somewhat over 10 years ago, that still worked, but the colors were getting faded.)
