Happy, I understand what you are trying to say. However, what created the base hatred of gays in American but religion? It is the the root as far as I can tellâŚwhat else would it be? Biology and science education? I donât think so. To me it is learned and if you could find the root to anyone thinking like that it may come from someone else they learned it from and they could be the one with the âbecause God hates gaysâ thinking.
The other thing, some may say it isnât religious to protect their religion.
Just a thought.
The root? Yeah absolutely itâs religion most of the time. I will point out though that Stalinâs USSR, Maoâs PRC, and other secular states have been none too friendly to LGBT people over teh years eitehr. I definitely think that religion causes homophobia, however i also feel that homophobia can and does exist without religion. Taht is to say I think many use religion as an excuse for their homopobia that already exists independent of religion. Religion often makes things worse as I saw in the God Loves Uganda documentary but I think some homophobia is rooted in the individualâs own hatreds and mind problems that are present without religion. That said, I am NOT giving religion a pass for homophobia at all.
