Social media allows for a small mis-step to go a very long way very quickly. And with it comes taking responsibility for what you say. Don’t want your opinions possibly publicized and generating effects? Don’t tweet them!

I have mixed feelings about this. It bothers me that someone can do something stupid on social media, and the consequences can be so devastating. But then again, that’s how life is. Someone can do something stupid while driving a car, and the consequences can be devastating. Etc. etc.

Maybe the way to look at it is that without social media, way too many racist / sexist / homophobic jerks would never be “outed”. I take that viewpoint now, but I admit to some mixed feelings.
