re: #544 Dr Lizardo

I was cheerfully accepted by Turkish Muslims, be they Sufi or more mainstream Sunni - even Alevis, of course, and Shi’ite.

Arab Muslims, well…….they always gave me the side-eye, LOL. They probably thought I was an intelligence services agent or something. Fortunately, in Berlin Kreuzberg, the majority of Muslims are Turkish, and they’re pretty welcoming. Of course, there’s the Milli Grs bunch, but I tended to steer clear of them. They’re a little……….intense.

Your comment raises something I’ve been wondering about. How many Americans realize there are many different denominations of practitioners of Islam?

Most Americans lump all things into a nice tight little package of Muslim. And when they aim their hate, it is to the entire group.

Yet, many Americans practice what they call Christianity under a million different denominations, even having certain groups they hate and call trouble makers for all Christians.

This goes to what I said many months ago…I think an education of all the ins and outs of Islam is needed in this country. I am not sure how you teach people something they already seem to have all the ideas they need, but I have a feeling a little knowledge beyond “it is a religion hell-bent on destroying Western peoples and democracies” couldn’t hurt.
