Yep, the laws regularly cited had been passed by the Wiemar gov’t in response to anti-government violence, the Nazis loosened them shortly after taking power, and the only people barred going forward were those the Nazis labeled as “untermensch.” Another useful point to bring up would be the Warsaw Uprising, where the Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto spent months arming everybody in anticipation of liberating themselves, only to get stomped flat by what were essentially second-line Wehrmacht troops. A man with courage and a bolt-action rifle doesn’t stand much chance against a 25 ton tank.

Which is what I point out to gun nuts. “You are not going to be able to outgun a helicopter gunship. It will cut you to pieces in seconds.” That’s harsh but that’s also reality. These people really think they will be able to stand up against “the government”. Hint: Most government militaries are not as ineptly run as the Russian military, and no you’re not going to be hitching up a tank to your Ford F-250 and haul it home as a prize in the Second American Civil War.
