We used to accept that only G-d could control what child would be born and what genetic code s/he would have. I do not think we have enough wisdom in our entire species to make these decisions ourselves. It is very scary indeed.

Once we unraveled the genome, we have basically set ourselves up as the new God. We can build, repair, whatever we want on a genetic level. That means no more cancer or birth defects or other ailments that have cursed us since time began. But, it will also mean children in the future will get an artificial boost in evolution. We will be able to create taller, leaner, smarter, healthier, “better” children with our new found technology. That scares the hell out of me, it sounds like a sci fi movie, but it’s what is coming if we like it or not.
