Well, another problem for Sears is that they’re a chain that built its name on quality and service, if not always the cheapest prices. Right now, cheap throwaway shit is a big draw and the Sears model just doesn’t fit it.
IMHO, what bit Sears is when it tried to continue claiming qulaity and service but ran with cheap throwaway shit. Kenmore machines started being crap (and getting Sears warranties honored something of a joke) starting about 20 years ago. I bought my last craftsman tool about 15 years ago when the screwdriver and both its subsequent replacements broke — and I wasn’t the only one noticing that decline.
My wife’s description at the time was “K-mart quality at Penney’s prices.” You have no idea how we laughted when they picked up K-mart.
