A ‘savaging’? What on earth are you talking about? The ‘savaging’ of the removal of governmental services will convince people to live within their means by what mechanism? What if they already were living within their means, but austerity programs have removed governmental services they relied on?

Dark’s parroting the conservative line that people can’t expect the government to take care of them. Besides…think how much fun he’ll have blogging about the “food riots over there” (not to mention the boost it will give to people selling defense seminar seats). Honestly, I don’t think he really thinks about his position, except to think it’s right(and unchangeable).
