My long held theory is that most engineering fuck ups would never happen if Design Engineers had to spend a minimum of one semester in the field working with the Techs who have to maintain/repair the equipment. Like connectors that are easily accessible in the design lab, but become a nightmare to access once the equipment is installed in its intended location.

As a software engineer, this is what we tried to do when we’d come up with a new product. We’d go and actually talk to the users in the field who would be using it, and try to design what they wanted. “Try” being the operative word; 9 times out of 10, we’d give them what they asked for, and they still wouldn’t like it. But at least it was an effort, as opposed to the Cybertwuck, which is literally the brain-child of a spoiled man-baby who thinks his designs are better than anyone else’s just by virtue of being his.
