OT, but there is a conversation going on a Thread on TVTropes about Iran threatening the Straits of Hormuz. I was wondering what people though on this idea I had:

Of course, if Iran tried to block the straits, they would be beyond desperate.

So much of their imports and exports go through the strait. If they did that you might see a repeat of 2009 on steroids. In addition, I would wonder if the Iran Regular Military would begin to separate from the Revolutionary Guard.

If they did this, I could see an Iranian Civil War occurring. Such a war would make the one in Libya look like a minor skirmish.

If I remember correctly, the Iranian Military and the Revolutionary Guard are distinct groups.
