Real Headline vs. Fox Headline

What right wing distortion machine?
Media • Views: 23,609

First, the actual Washington Post article linked at Fox Nation:

Obama seeks more power to merge agencies, streamline government

President Obama asked Congress on Friday for the power to consolidate parts of the federal government, proposing a first step of merging several trade- and commerce-related agencies under a plan that the White House said could eliminate more than 1,000 jobs and save $3 billion over 10 years.

Obama said he would focus initially on entities that deal with small business, but ultimately would like to get rid of inefficiencies throughout the federal government. He noted to an audience of small business leaders that the bureaucracy included five different entities involved in housing, and more than a dozen agencies that regulate food safety.

Now, the Fox Nation version:

Obama’s Latest Ruse Plays Us For Fools - Fox Nation

President Barack Obama will ask Congress for greater powers on Friday to shrink the federal government and consolidate several trade and commerce related agencies, which would save the government just $3 billion over 10 years, and eliminate 1,000 jobs.

$3 billion over TEN YEARS?  The government during the last three years has borrowed on average about $4 billion EACH DAY.  In addition, Obama notified Congress on yesterday of his intent to raise the nation’s debt limit by $1.2 trillion to cover increased U.S. spending commitments. The proposed savings, $3 billion, is one-four-hundredth of the debt limit increase he just requested from Congress.  It’s also less than half of what Obama tossed away on his supposed green-tech jobs stimulus.

Notice that the rant at Fox Nation is linked to the Washington Post, but bears no resemblance to the Post’s article, and is uncredited. It’s just an anonymously authored, incoherent tirade.

Right wing standards are getting pretty low.

He can’t help it, Fox-droids, you ARE fools.

I’ve already been assured by wingnuts today that this is actually a “bad thing” because it’s a “power grab” by Obama, when Congress could just as easily do away with these agencies by cutting them from the budget.

Remember folks, Obama is always wrong. Even when he’s right, he’s wrong.

It’s going to be fun watching the right-wing media decry streamlining government and eliminating redundant agencies just because Barack Obama suggested it.

They hate this POTUS so much they’re going to piss all over a basic conservative belief. This is hilarious.

They’ll try to cling to it by declaring that giving him such power is verboten, because they’re now all about returning power to Congress. So they’ll go with what some wingnuts have promoted, which is just killing the agencies in the budget talks. When the question comes up of what to do about the various regulations and authorities that those agencies held, they’ll just shrug and reiterate their “Deregulation is good!” mantra.

Did someone skip the part in school where they explain the difference in the news section of the newspaper, and the opinion section? This could appear, plausibly, in the opinion section, but not the news section.

I do not see where it is labeled as “opinion,” and it needs to be.

Good grief. This is just the beginning of what Obama wants to do to streamline gov’t. The tax dollar savings is great, even if it is not huge.

But the impact it can have on business and personal life when you need to deal with a government agency…well, that could be priceless.

9 eurozone nations downgraded by S&P

Standard & Poor’s said Friday that it has downgraded the credit ratings of nine euro area governments, including AAA-rated France and Austria.
S&P lowered its rating for Italy, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus by two notches. The move means Italian bonds are now rated BBB+, dangerously close to the junk bond level that could make it even harder for the government to raise money.
France and Austria both had their top-tier credit rating lowered by one notch to AA+, said S&P. But Germany, Finland, the Netherlands and Luxembourg all maintained their AAA ratings.
S&P cut the ratings of Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia by one notch.

Ouch.

vs.

Barack Obama wanting to streamline government and eliminate redundant agencies is anti-business! Why? Because, that’s why!

And then they wonder why people don’t take them seriously.

Fox’s shouting is distracting from a legitimate point. $300 million per year is a rounding error. And the agencies involved are pure corporate welfare. We shouldn’t be rearranging these agencies, we should be deep-sixing them completely. If we’re going to prioritize the budget in order to cut spending,, I would say that this kind of corporate welfare should be cut first.

Because a HUGE part of the cost of running any public agency is the payroll. If you consolidate functions and don’t get rid of any jobs, there is nothing saved.

The beating, threatening, and shooting were done in order to get non-existent information from the cop. This is clearly torture and was clearly done during war time. Torture is a war crime, hence West is a very clear example of a war criminal. That man should be rotting in prison.

OT, but there is a conversation going on a Thread on TVTropes about Iran threatening the Straits of Hormuz. I was wondering what people though on this idea I had:

Of course, if Iran tried to block the straits, they would be beyond desperate.

So much of their imports and exports go through the strait. If they did that you might see a repeat of 2009 on steroids. In addition, I would wonder if the Iran Regular Military would begin to separate from the Revolutionary Guard.

If they did this, I could see an Iranian Civil War occurring. Such a war would make the one in Libya look like a minor skirmish.

If I remember correctly, the Iranian Military and the Revolutionary Guard are distinct groups.

Reading is hard.

From the article:

The new department would combine the trade and commerce functions of the Commerce Department, the Small Business Administration, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Export-Import Bank, the Overseas Private Investment Corp., and the Trade and Development Agency.

Yes, reading is hard, isn’t it? I just looked at the White House fact sheet which lists those some agencies and says nothing about agencies in food safety or housing. There is a huge spiderweb of agencies on the infographic. But their stated goal is to create a new department for businesses that incorporates a slew of agencies concerned entirely with business.

71 ProBosniaLiberal  Fri, Jan 13, 2012 5:59:51pm

Iran’s in a worse position than in 2009. Unemloyment at 12.5+%, Inflation expected to be 20%, Khamanei and Ahmadinejad are at each other’s throats, and the Navy is off in Syria, possibly to help al-Assad.

If Iran did this, cutting off most of their trade, which includes vital things, like food, which could put people in Iran at real risk for starvation, things could snap. And, remember, their are 2 distinct militaries.
