Prog means ‘progressive’. They’re an actual subgroup in the ‘liberal’ wing, though you don’t catch anyone using the term ‘prog’ actually discerning between progressives and non-progressives. The equivalent comparison would be ‘neo-con’, for example, another term which was widely misapplied and was spoken by those on the left with confused contempt.
