Yeah, I don’t understand it. But we also have relatively fewer homes with full basements here due to granite. Maybe that has something to do with it? I honestly don’t know. It could be done. Blasting granite is a big industry here, so it’s not like we don’t have experience or tools. In our townhouse community there was a major honing of trees and limbs last summer (we live basically in a forest). Hopefully that will help.

I suppose that’s a thing. Around here, everything is sand or relatively soft clay, since the water table is so high. (And yet, most houses have full basements; see, “Alley, Tornado.”) It’s relatively inexpensive for us to bury thousands of miles of cables.
