Nobody’s willing to advance a realistic and practical conservative version of the Republican party. Appeasing the Tea Party nuts is a dead end. Even if you get them to vote Republican they’re going to be really pissed when elected officials have to deal with the real world. There’s no way to win with them on board.

A perfect case in point.

Romney did an interview with Newsmax - the so-called media site that published an article calling for a military coup in the US, and has columnists like Pamela Geller and other conspiracy theorizing insane people.

There don’t seem to be any consequences at all for this kind of crap in American politics.
