I thought I was the only person who liked the stuff Vai did with Devin Townsend. The song “Pig” is one of Vai’s best, and Devin is the icing on the cake.

Interestingly enough, the making of that album turned out to be a testament to Frank Zappa’s prowess as a band leader. Vai thought he could contain the enormous egos and energy of the people involved (including Terry Bozzio), and found out the hard way he could not.

Everyone who liked that album seems to have a story where someone else bought it, went “who’s this maniac screwing up everything with his singing?” and then the album was handed off to people like us!

There was a conscert review of a Devin show on metalsucks that I would have killed to see, the guy is just the most positive, nice and utterly zany one man metal machine ever :D
