My Grandma got a diploma in hospital administration and worked in a hospital. (1930’s) Basically a glorified secretary type job. She then married a farmer and had to learn that job as well. She eventually went back to a hospital work in the late 60s after all the kids were gone. Cool thing was that by the mid 70’s her job was more admin then secretary.

That’s what I forgot, secretary! Four jobs women did, secretary!, nurse, teacher and telephone operator.

My grandmother had no children, but was married. She had two sisters. Each died. My father’s mother died when he was 1 from tuberculosis. The other sister passed and left two sons. So my grandmother (technically my great aunt - my dad’s aunt) raised all 3 boys as her own. I suspect that put the lid on any plans she had outside the home.
