oh there is, but the Mullahs wouldn’t have gotten there if they weren’t pretty savvy. People sharp enough to get in charge of a nation don’t go around getting themselves killed.

Its not ‘hope’, its ‘analysis’. There’s a tendency to think of the leaders of Iran as suicide bombers on a huge scale, and that’s just not very likely to be true.

I think the opposite is true — there is a tendency to think of them as rational actors, like the Soviets were.

It completely ignores the specifics of Iran.

The sect of Islam to which Ahmadinejad and Khameini subscribe really is quite worrisome in terms of any possible “containment” strategy like MAD.

I doubt they would want to commit suicide THEMSELVES… but I also think they wouldn’t be stopped by the thought of a losing an Iranian city or two, while they hide out in bunkers/in hiding.
