As a scientist, I must keep my mind open. There could be any number of explanations and issues with the data that must be clarified.

As a taxpaying member of society, I say he needs to go.

Agree - I am open minded too.

But if no plausible, data-conforming explanation comes forth then Hansen et al will have damaged their reputations irreparably, IMO. They will have also undermined public confidence in climate theory altogether. That is why scientists aren’t supposed to cheat - it inevitably comes back on them.
