Being opposed to paying teachers a proper wage - and hiring enough of them is one of the major reasons that America has the shitty education system it does. It also shoots ourselves in the foot. Even if we tripled the money we spend on education - and compared to what we spend on all manner of pork, it is a drop in the bucket - we sould quickly make the money back in tax revenue because we had a much better educated and capable populace.

But once again, penny unwise and pound stupid when it comes to education.
