I don’t think that every pregnant woman should have to be married. My mom was raped and got pregant with her 2nd child- a boy. She put him up for adoption. Being black and this was 1959, there were no options except that he go to an orphanage. Guess who adopted him? The guy who raped my mom. She was 17 and a minor therefore had no say. Women had no rights then.

My sister had a child that was the result of a date rape. This argument is not about womens rights this is about children being born into a home without a father. There are exceptions to every rule but we have gone way beyond exceptions. We are at the point now where over 80% of black children are born to unwed mothers without a stable family life and the white community is not far behind. Bill Cosby was soundly excoriated by the black community for bringing that message in a speech he made, to I think the NAACP or another back group, about children needing a father. All you have to do is look around and see who are committing the crimes in the area of the country where you live. If you are honest about it most of them criminals are young people who are the product of a single mother. The kids deserve better than to be made fodder of the criminal Justice system or being killed in the act of committing a crime. All I am trying to say is things are way out of control in our society and I think a big part of the breakdown is in the loss of intact families.
