Govt gives you money to buy car. Then they tax you on the money they gave you. Why not just give people a tax write off if you provide a copy of a receipt for a new car in FY 2009?

Would that have been so hard to do?

They do not tax you on the rebate, but some states do charge the full sales price for sales tax. No federal tax, and a deduction for the sales tax.
