There is a movement in Baltimore and other “shrinking cities” to tear down whole abandoned neighborhoods and turn them to other uses, like parks.

The preservationists are outraged. But some of the places they would preserve look about like those pics.

If a city grows, you build. If it shrinks, you tear down. See Rome. Marble is the only thing that lasted.

It tears me apart to see some of these old building destroyed. But there are many, like those pictured, that are simply beyond salvation. There comes a time when that simply has to be acknowledged, and the blight they represent be removed. Meanwhile, there are still literally thousands of fine architectural specimens that are still salvageable. Focus on those before they go down the drain as well.
