Don’t really agree with that. Yes, there are a few folks who are trying to relive the 60s anti-war protests (or even the early aughts anti-Iraq war protests), but there is a gut wrenching agenda. It’s the growing disparity between rich and poor and that business and government’s compact with the public is broken.

There might not be an easy slogan to wrap around, but the “we are the 99%” comes close.

There’s also quite a bit of substance here. Businesses on Wall Street have taken advantage of cozy relationships with government and lax oversight of existing regulations to the detriment of the public.

Does that translate to lasting power of the protest movement? I don’t know.

I think the general purpose of the protests are as legitimate as the Tea Party. There’s nothing wrong with responsible government spending or addressing financial inequality. However in both cases the messenger’s interpretation is flawed. The Marxist groups are the main organizers and they have a different solution in mind. Plenty of signs in the crowd that capitalism has failed, etc. I wouldn’t support the wall street protests any more than the Tea Party.
