re: #725 reuven

I sat down in front of the TV yesterday around 8:30 to do what I do every evening at 8:30—watch Jeopardy and TMZ both in 30 minutes (via judicious use of TiVo) and get my quota of daily TV watching in.

Imagine my disappointment when Jeopardy was pre-empted by live coverage of the Oakland non-riots. They had camera crews set up, etc, waiting for something to happen in Oakland. It wasn’t a big loss, however, because it turns out it was “Kids week” and not regular jeopardy week.

(There was some violence, vandalism in Oakland later on. Police showed remarkable restraint in not arresting people who were throwing stones at them. Personally, I’m a little annoyed that people who throw stones at policemen aren’t removed from society, but they were probably weighing that against the risk of inflaming a crowd.)

Some?

“Police eventually cleared the intersection all the way up Broadway well past 14th Street and arrested at least ten people in the process. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that at about 10 p.m. a group of Black Bloc anarchists broke from the others and went north on Broadway, smashing windows and cars and looting. The newspaper further reports that somewhere between 50 and 100 of them were arrested.”

I’m sorry the riot wasn’t big enough for you.
